Both the arch leading to the courtyard of Leoni Montanari Palace, and that of the gate to the street, are surmounted by busts and winged dragons. These grotesque and ostentatiously monstrous animals may be taken as a hallmark of the poetics of the wondrous which characterizes all the decorations of the palace. As they entered the building, the visitors were supposed to be astonished by, and to admire, the decorative inventions which had been commissioned by the Leoni Montanaris. |
